UNEP Finance Inquiry releases final report

17 Apr UNEP Finance Inquiry releases final report

On 31 March, the UN Environment Programme Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Finance System came to the completion of its mandate. The Inquiry, launched in 2014, aimed to advance options to align the financial system with sustainable development, and spurred the development of a wide range of sustainable finance initiatives, including the Sustainable Digital Finance Alliance and the Financial Centres for Sustainability network.

On 17 April, the Inquiry released its final report, Making Waves, which argues that that sustainability is now becoming part of routine practice within financial institutions and regulatory bodies. However, the report also cautions that current financial flows are still nowhere near enough to deliver the trillions of dollars needed each year to finance the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.
